What is patient companionship?
In a nursing home or assisted living facility, a companion or sitter is often hired by the resident or his/her family to provide personal care to the patient at a level that cannot be provided by the facility's nursing staff, in which each member is responsible for a much larger number of patients.
What does a companionship do?
Having a companion in life, whether they are a relative, friend or carer, helps keep the mind active and prevent social isolation. Someone there to engage in conversation with, even if it's for a few moments, encourages mental stimulation and positive thoughts, as well as reminisce memories.
